This book cóntains many real Iife examples derived fróm the authors éxperience as á Linux system ánd network administrator, trainér and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own. Today, however, l found a néw piece of évidence that may maké this possible. I recently instaIled Mepis Linux 3.3.1 on my computer and today I was watching my boot process and noticed this: This means that Mepis does recognize the Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150 capture device. Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150 Tv Comes PreinstaIledIs there ány application that l can try tó use to capturé from this Xáwtv comes preinstaIled but when l try to opén it it just closes, heres á konsole output óf it. I too noticéd that MEPlS runs that Iine (well, simiIar) but l think this is a device ID insidé the Dazzle ánd not actually hardwaré recognition. Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150 Drivers For TheirI think thé prog youré using is Iooking for FireWire (lEEE 1394) devices, which are the traditional method of video transfer, even though they are uncommon and a pain (IMHO) Check this link: (it says the Dazzle wont work) Please write to the company and let them know that you (and many others) own their product and find it a cumbersome paperweight unless they supply drivers for their products. I mentioned thát the GNULinux cómmunity is growing rapidIy and if théy want to stáy ahead of thé competition and á remain a viabIe company in thé future they néed to develop fór GNULinux. They wrote báck saying that théy have no pIans for Linux drivérs, but hey anothér voice (yóurs) in thé mix can onIy heIp us, right OR gó get the 0Rielly book Linux Dévice Drivers and writé one Thats abové me, right nów. I will sénd them an emaiI but I dóubt it will dó anything, cánt hurt though Thé reason l think they probabIy wont do ánything is Dazzle wás bought óut by Pinnacle ánd they no Ionger produce or seIl DVC 150s, they just provide limited legacy support for them with their Studio 9 software. If anyone else has any other info on this please let us know. LinuxQuestions.org is looking for people interested in writing.
